The Allier department is in the heart of France. It is the most northern part of the Auvergne. Some of the larger towns are Moulins, Montluçon and Vichy.

You should absolutely visit Vichy. The town has been declared a five-star "Ville Fleurie" because of its decorations with many flowers and plants. But not only because of this. It is also a Ville d'Eau, which means that, just like Bourbon l'Archambault, it is a town with thermal baths. Those baths have been magnificently kept and are still radiating their glory. A walk along the river Allier will make you understand why we love this town so much.

Do also stroll in the old center of Moulins. You fancy yourself in the fourteenth century. The Bourbons knew already: Montluçon is a beautiful city. Not for nothing they built a glorious castle viewing the whole city and its surroundings. Shopping? You will stare your eyes out!

Near Clermont Ferrand the themeparc Vulcania has recently been constructed. Far under the ground you will get to see the inner parts of a vulcano. A very special experience for both young and elderly people.

La Fantaisie lies in the "Bourbonnais", an area in the Allier department with many castles and old monuments, in rolling country with spectacular vistas. Many castles or their ruins can be visited. At La Fantaisie a long list of them is available.

In the vicinity of La Fantaisie lies the magnificent Forêt de Tronçais, a large oakforest with pretty lakes and many kinds of wild animals.

It is a beautiful area for the naturelover: virgin forests, rivers and lakes. It is lovely swimming in these lakes, but also nearer, in the "Plan d'Eau" in Vieure, about 20 km, it is nice to swim or canoe.

Keep in mind that the vicinity is excellent for bicyclerides (bikes available at La Fantaisie, so no dragging!) and walks and you'll know that this is the place to go!
